The Story Behind The Painting

Quiet Inlet

Quiet Inlet feels like an echo of Quidi Vidi in Newfoundland and Labrador, softened by time, with something of Petty Harbour–Maddox Cove in its colourful houses and old outport character. Small homes rest on the grassy hillside and gather near the water's edge, while weathered fishing stages and a wooden pier reach quietly into the inlet. Great pale rocks shelter the shoreline, their shapes repeated in the glassy water as though the sea itself has paused to remember the village.

Elizabeth did not paint a particular place or try to preserve an exact view. She paints from the echoes of memory—colours, shapes and feelings gathered from many maritime villages and carried quietly through the years. Here, those memories become a sheltered corner where the world grows still, inviting us to linger, breathe deeply and remember the quiet beauty of the coast—and our responsibility to care for it.
