Painting The Quiet Beauty Of Life's Special Moments.

Elizabeth A. Evans is a formally trained Canadian artist whose career has spanned more than 60 years. She has devoted her adult life to painting, bringing her inner vision to the world through images of beauty, memory and quiet reflection.

Elizabeth studied at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts in the 1960s, where she was taught and mentored by Arthur Lismer, a founding member of Canada's Group of Seven. Lismer taught her more than the techniques of paint, ink and pencil. He encouraged her to see the world through the eyes of an artist and to trust her own artistic vision.

An accomplished student, Elizabeth received numerous awards and scholarships, including the opportunity to study at the Banff School of Fine Arts. There, she spent her summers among fellow artists and internationally recognized teachers, further developing the skills and artistic sensibility that would shape her lifelong career.

A Lifetime Of Special Moments

Elizabeth grew up in Montreal and spent much of her childhood in the countryside of Quebec's Eastern Townships, where her family owned a farm. Those early experiences gave her a deep and lasting appreciation for nature, animals and the changing seasons.

She married William Baker in 1971, and together they raised three daughters. In 1994, the family moved to Vancouver, where the mountains, forests and ocean of Canada's West Coast offered an entirely new world of subjects and inspiration.

In 2009, Elizabeth and William settled in the artistic community of Gibsons on British Columbia's Sunshine Coast. She continues to paint there today, surrounded by the coastal scenery, gardens and natural beauty that have become such an important part of her work.

Elizabeth's paintings reflect the places and experiences that have shaped her life: childhood memories of Eastern Canada, journeys through the Maritimes, the mountains and ocean of the West Coast, and her enduring love of nature and gardens.

Throughout her career, she has shared her artistic vision through solo exhibitions, gallery presentations and distinctive collections of paintings. Although her subjects are varied, they are united by a sense of serenity.

The stillness of a Maritime village, the quiet beauty of a single flower, the softness of a woodland, the tenderness of a still life and the openness of a pastoral landscape all reflect the calm and nurturing spirit at the heart of her work.

Elizabeth does not simply paint what she sees. She paints what a place or moment leaves behind in memory.

Creating An Emotional Experience

Dear Art Lover,

I create paintings that invite the viewer to pause, feel and enter the world within the image. My work is representational, so the choice of subject is always important, but my purpose is not simply to record what I see. I want to capture the feeling and story held within a special moment.

The artistic challenge lies in bringing together form, colour, composition and subject so naturally that each element feels inseparable from the whole. I seek the balance that allows a painting to become more than an arrangement of visual elements—to become an emotional experience.

I began pursuing my passion for art at an early age and received the formal training needed to support my artistic vision. My chosen medium is acrylic paint on canvas, which gives me the freedom to explore colour, atmosphere, light and emotion.

My paintings reflect both the beauty and complexity of life. Through them, I hope to create a connection with the viewer and to share the same sense of wonder, peace or reflection that I experienced during the creative process.

Above all, I paint special moments in nature—moments that nourish the soul, remind us of the beauty surrounding us and deepen our desire to protect and conserve the natural world.
