Small houses follow the curve of the green headland while brightly coloured boats rest in the protected water below. Across the inlet, a distant shore lies beneath a softly glowing sky, making the cove feel sheltered from everything beyond it.

Elizabeth did not paint one identifiable village; she allowed many remembered coastlines to become one.
