The Story Behind The Painting
Crystal Cape feels like an echo of Peggy's Cove in Nova Scotia, softened by time, with something of Blue Rocks in its rocky shoreline and small fishing stages. Bright houses are scattered across the green headland while pale granite boulders gather at the water's edge. Below them, dories rest beside the wharves and one small blue boat floats apart, surrounded by so much stillness that the village, rocks and boats appear almost as clearly beneath the water as above it.
Elizabeth did not paint a particular place or try to preserve an exact view. She brought together colours, shapes and feelings remembered from many Atlantic villages, allowing memory to simplify the scene until only its quiet character remained. Crystal Cape becomes a place of balance between land and sea—a reminder that when the world grows still, beauty is often found in the simplest things.
Elizabeth is a passionate supporter of charitable organizations dedicated to protecting endangered species. With every print purchased, a portion of the proceeds is donated to wildlife conservation efforts — helping preserve the natural world that inspires her art.
